Merriweather Food & Drink | 27 Russell Street, SOUTH BRISBANE QLD 4101
At
the Eat Drink Blog conference that I attended as a delegate over the
weekend, there was a session on ethical and sustainable food, which
made me rethink the way I eat and the importance of supporting local
produce.
So
Monday morning when I woke up, I decided to take Minibun George for a
walk to a cafe where we could have some fresh local produce for
breakfast. The walk was very pleasant. At 7.30 in the morning, the
city wasn't as crowded and the air was crisp. A short while later, we
arrived at Merriweather Food & Drink in South Brisbane. This
corner cafe design its menu in a way that incorporates fresh
ingredients from local, small holding and organic farmers. I ordered
the roasted local
mushrooms, goats milk labne, pistachio spezie, poached eggs ($15.50)
and a latte ($4). The
dish was presented in a very simplistic way; two perfectly poached
eggs with gooey yellow yolk carefully placed on top of a slice of
thick sourdough that had been smeared with creamy labneh, then with a
handful of mushrooms and a sprinkle of pistachio nuts, the dish was
complete. The mushrooms tasted very fresh and slightly firm in
texture; they were beautiful. I would've easily eaten much, much
more, but self-restraint was shown.
And
as for the latte, it was perfect.
Total
Bunnie Dollars Spent: $19.50.
