Scout Cafe | 190 Petrie Terrace, PETRIE TERRACE QLD 4000
Sometimes,
it’s the little things in life that can put a smile on your face or
perhaps even make your day, such as having a delicious weekend
breakfast at an unexpected location.
It’s
been a while since the other travel bunnie and I had enjoyed a nice,
relaxing breakfast with just the two of us. Many past weekends were
spent with my parents as dad was here for his bi-annual holiday from
China. So last weekend, when it was finally just the two of us, we
hardly hesitated at the idea of going out for breakfast.
A
short five-minute drive took us to a cute single storey house
situated at the corner of Princess Street and Petrie Terrace. We were
at Scout CafĂ©. I’ve always liked this area, for its open green
space and beautiful buildings. The café was busy. A few people were
waiting outside on the benches, sipping coffee and waiting to get a
seat inside. We put our names down and decided to look at the
breakfast menu. Conveniently, a table became available just as we had
decided on what to have for breakfast.
We
were led to a room at the back of the café where a big wooden
communal table was located. As we sat down, our order was taken. A
Saigon (iced coffee with
condensed milk)($4.50) for me and a salted caramel
milkshake ($6) for the other
travel bunnie (which shortly after its arrival became my drink as it
was so delicious and I just couldn’t resist hogging it).
Breakfast
took a while, but we were pre-occupied with discussion of our
upcoming holidays plans and therefore we didn’t mind the wait. When
the breakfast dishes arrived at our table, I was slightly taken back
at their simplicity. But sometimes, you just can’t judge a book by
its cover as both the breaky bagel w' fried egg,
Kaiserfleisch, cheddar, rocket, housemade relish, fresh tomato &
aioli ($14) and Merguez
sausage, smoked tomatoes & fried eggs on warm pita w' sumac
yoghurt, pistachios & mint herb salad ($17)
were so tasty and fulfilling.
My
dish had a lot of different flavours to it and the Merguez sausage
had such a dominant taste on my palate on its own yet when eaten with
the pita bread and the rest of the ingredients it brought the whole
dish together.
Just
as impressive as its food, the service at Scout Café was friendly
and upbeat. Looks like we have found ourselves yet another hidden
gem.
Total
Bunnie Dollars Spent: $42.50
