Seaduction Restaurant + Bar | Gold Coast, AUSTRALIA
It’s
often the case that when your expectations for something are too
high, you will likely be disappointed.
The
other travel bunnie took me to Sea Temple’s Seaduction for our
anniversary dinner during our recent weekend getaway to the Gold
Coast. We had made the reservation well in advance (at the beginning
of January in fact) knowing well and good that the restaurant would
be busy due to the Valentine’s Day weekend. Located in the Soul
building, Seaduction provides a fine dining experience with an
amazing oceanfront view.
We
were seated at a corner table at the back of the restaurant despite
our request for a window seat. The hostess advised us that a window
seat would need to be requested at least two weeks in advance. When
we told the hostess that we had made the reservation at least six
weeks in advance, she said a simple “oh” and walked away. In all
fairness, someone else did come over five minutes later to offered us
another table located right in front of another couple but slightly
closer to the window. We kindly declined her offer.
To
start off the anniversary dinner, we had the chef’s complimentary
beef pate amuse-bouche, which according to the other travel
bunnie was delicious.
For
entrées, I had the Seared diver scallops, served with black
pudding crumble, sweet corn custard and carrot essence
($23) and the other travel bunnie had the Alaskan King Crab
‘natural’ with tarragon sponge, squid ink popcorn and baby greens
($22). Both of the entrées were
really enjoyable. The presentation was visually enticing and the
tastes were equally delicious. The delicate scallops were perfectly
seared, plump and juicy in the middle, and they worked perfectly with
the sweet corn custard.
Unfortunately
the mains were nowhere near as nice. I understand the whole molecular
gastronomy thing, but the Sous
Vide duck breast, fruited sweet potato puree, lime confit and coffee
foam ($40)
and Twice cooked pork and
crispy pig’s ear, served with cannellini bean puree, white
asparagus and apple bubbles
($37) had so much foam and bubbles but the meat had little flavour.
In comparison, the Broccolini
with toasted almonds
($8) side was the highlight as the Broccolini was fresh and the
almond flavour subtle but apparent.
Luckily,
we finished the dinner on a sweet note with some rather delightful
desserts both of which were beautifully presented: Velvet
chocolate, marshmallow rice crunch, almond dentelle with white and
dark chocolate soil ($19.50)
and Peanut butter parfait, coconut
oats, compressed banana, pistachio rock sponge and brittle, elements
of fresh and jellified raspberry
($19.50)
In
my opinion the service at Seaduction was subpar to fine dining
restaurant standards and despite the romantic ambience highlighted
with all the candles and flowers dotted around the restaurant,
Seaduction failed to seduce.
Total
Bunnie Dollars Spent: $191.
