Eat, Drink and Be Straddie + Giveaway!

When I was approached by Angie Simms about her new cookbook, I immediately took a liking to it after flipping through an excerpt of the book online. Named Eat, Drink and Be Straddie: Tales and Tastes from an Island in the Sun, the book contains not only delicious, easy to follow recipes, it’s also filled with stunning photos taken by Award-winning Stradbroke Island photographers Angie Simms and Stuart Quinn. I spent an entire afternoon curled up on the couch devouring the book cover to cover. Flipping through the pages, it was as if I could smell the sea, hear the seagulls flapping their wings as they search for a feed and I could see honey slowly dripping down from the honeycomb, like golden nectar. I simply felt the wonderfulness of living in Queensland where we are surrounded by fresh produce and seafood and I felt the passion from the growers and producers who work tirelessly to bring fresh produce to its people. I love the fact that all of the recipes feature ingredients sourced on the island, but more importantly, the book include stories about local producers. You can read about North Stradbroke Island oyster farmer Greg Nankervis and the best way to eat oysters or learn how Phill and Theresa Bowman used their labour of love to put a little bit of Stradbroke Island into every supermarket in Australia  (hint, hint - honey soy chicken flavoured Kettle Chips!).

Last Sunday morning instead of making Nutella on toast with sliced bananas and berries like I usually would, I decided to pull out the book and make something different - page 31, banana pancakes with honey. It took me altogether about 15 minutes to whip up breakfast, and the end result was well received by the other travel bunnie and Minibun George as they were absolutely delicious, and quite honestly it took minimal effort.

The book makes a great Christmas present for a foodie friend or simply as a good coffee table book that would surely impress your friends when they come over. Better still, if you are like me, an amateur cook with a passion for delicious food, I’m sure you’ll love this book as much as I do.

To celebrate the launch of Eat, Drink and Be Straddie, head to my Instagram account for details on how you can win a copy of the book, signed by both Angie Simms and Stuart Quinn. Happy reading (and eating)!
