New Shanghai, 226 Queen Street, BRISBANE QLD 4000

Other than one or two disappointing experiences, we've been quite lucky with our food adventures since we've been back from the States.

We recently discovered New Shanghai on the lower ground level of Queens Plaza, a well decorated Shanghaiese restaurant. So we decided to try it out.

The restaurant was relatively busy upon our arrival, but we were seated within fifteen minutes. The restaurant provides classical Shanghai-style cuisine. From xiao long bao (steamed mini pork buns) to drunken chicken served with cold noodles, the choices are plentiful. Needless to say, I had a difficult time deciding on what to have for dinner. On top of all that, I love the décor!

We settled on New Shanghai xiao long bao ($7.50 for 8 pieces), pan fried crab and pork buns ($13.50 for 8 pieces), braised pork belly ($16.80) and stir fried string beans ($12.80) with a pot of earthy Pu'er tea on the side.

Although the braised pork belly looked very fatty, it was delicious, the meat was tender, moist and had a lovely deep flavour so I could rarely taste any of the fattiness. The rest of our dishes were also very tasty. Personally, I liked the pan fried crab and pork buns better than the xiao long bao, and I think they are great value too. Also, the tea was a fantastic way to lighten the heaviness of the pork.

We are so happy to have found a great Chinese restaurant that's close to home!

Total Bunnie Dollars Spent: $61.40.

    1. Thank you :)

I really like this place, but make sure you don't go there too late because the service won't be as nice.

      Happy eating ! :)
