Peasant, 61 Petrie Ter The Barracks, BRISBANE QLD 4000

Once in a while (a while being once a week) the bunnies would freshen up and have a date night somewhere in town. So last Sunday night before what turned out to be a rather mundane session at the French Film Festival, we amused our palettes at Peasant.

Peasant, a hip Spanish tapas establishment in the Petrie Terrance Barracks precinct attracted my attention straight away with its rustic yet intriguing décor. We were greeted with smiles and the head waiter led us to our table in their outdoor garden area. The menu consisted of your regular tapas items with contemporary twists. Dinner was had with a bottle of Sangria (the taste of red wine was slightly too strong for my liking). Food-wise, everything that we had on the night was simply delicious. Even the simplest manchego croquette ($14.00) had bursts of creamy, cheesy flavours. My favourite was baked half shell scallops, smoked tomato & paprika butter ($16.00) and beef tartare with quail egg & toast ($17.00). The restaurant had a full house that night and we were worried that we wouldn’t be able to make it to the movie, but everything was presented within 30 minutes as we informed our waiter about our situation.

Peasant is definitely my favourite Spanish restaurant in Brisbane and is a great option for some casual tapas at an inner city funky venue.
