Rae's on Wategos | Byron Bay, AUSTRALIA

Rae’s on Wategos is one of those places where once you set foot inside, you may never want to leave. Located just off the beach, this boutique hotel is one of the most iconic places in Byron Bay. Once listed as one of the world’s top 25 hotels by Conde Nast Traveller Magazine, this Mediterranean-style villa provides so much privacy, which makes it a top secluded, blissful getaway spot.

We recently had a weekend getaway at the Elements of Byron and decided to have lunch at Rae’s on Wategos before heading home. Located close to the Cape Byron Lighthouse, it took about 5 minutes to get to Rae’s from the heart of Byron Bay. The setting was very relaxing. Our table, covered with a crisp white linen table cloth was facing the ocean and provided views of the glimmering sea through the green leaves of palm trees. The menu here places a lot of emphasis on seafood and whilst the food as well as the service here is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, the price tag reflects this too. I thoroughly enjoyed the Moreton Bay bug raviolo served with char grilled bug, fennel veloute, garlic, lemon and herb oil ($45), which is an iconic dish at  Rae’s Restaurant, although I must add, the fish of the day with macadamia crumble, mustard cress, zucchini, lemon, chilli, basil ($38) tasted really good too.

I would definitely like to go back to Rae’s on Wategos again. Perhaps next time, we will stay for a night or two to enjoy the secluded swimming pool and luxurious day spa.

Total Bunnie Dollars Spent: $250
