The Royal Croquet Club | Events
The last month of Spring is going to end on a high note for Brisbaneites with the arrival of the Royal Croquet Club. Held at the Cultural Forecourt, Southbank for the period from 6 November to 22 November, the Royal Croquet Club is the ultimate garden party filled with fantastic food, delicious drinks, awesome tunes and above all, croquet! And the price is right, as it’s free-to-enter event!
On the opening weekend, we decided to check it out at lunch. It was the perfect weather for it as the sun was beaming down, making the river glisten like thousands of diamonds paved on the ground. The team at Royal Croquet Club together with the food vendors have done a great job at setting up a fun but relaxed venue. The only problem? You might not know where to start with the food! So may I suggest that you head to the Pimm’s stand for some freshly made and beautifully decorated Pimm’s? We found a nice table in the shade as we didn’t want Minibun George to get too much of a tan, and then off I went to get enticed by the event’s food vendors, including The Defiant Duck, Miss Kays, Sin Vida, Mighty Might, Bao Down Now and Street ADL.
I went back to our table with a Mighty brisket - pulled wagyu brisket, potato & pickle salad, molasses BBQ sauce ($14) and a pulled pork burger served with buttermilk slaw, adobo sauce ($14) both from Mighty Mighty, a super bowl salad with grilled chicken ($14) from The Defiant Duck and a karaage chicken bao ($8) from Bao Down. Judging by the facial expression of the other travel bunnie, I knew that I had done a good job at ordering. Given that our stomaches can only handle so much, we’ve agreed that another visit to the Royal Croquet Club has to be made before it’s gone.
On our way out, I spotted La Macelleria and of course I thought it would be crime not to have any of their ice-cream especially give that they had come up with a special flavour called the Royal Croquet Club, but you’ll have to go to find out what it is.
