Ben's Alibi | 363 George Street, BRISBANE CBD QLD 4000

To end our SATC marathon, last night the other travel bunnie and I watched SATC The Movie No.2.

I’ve always wanted to go to somewhere exotic like Marrakesh or Dubai and by watching the movie, it just intensified my desire to visit the Middle East.

Sadly, our trip to the land of exotica probably won’t happen for another few years. But hey, at least I can easily find places in Brisbane to enjoy the taste of Middle Eastern flavours.

I hopped over to Ben’s Alibi at lunch today and grabbed a quick bite of their roasted Moroccan lamb sandwich ($8.90). It was simply delicious and the service was extremely efficient despite the hectic lunch time rush.

I can’t wait to take the other travel bunnie there for a Moroccan feast.

Gerard's Bistro, 14/15 James Street, FORTITUDE VALLEY QLD 4006

We weren't planning on going out on Friday night, I had made special fried rice with Chinese sausage the night before for the first time for a pot-luck lunch at work and it turned out to be quite delicious.

I peeked at the clock as it ticked past 7.30, the other travel bunnie and I looked at each other and decided that the night was still young and we had to go somewhere for dessert.

We ended up at Gerard's Bistro, a fairly new establishment by the creators of Lychee Lounge. The décor was clean yet unique. The vibe was inviting and the service was friendly and prompt.

The dessert options all seemed really creative and quite fancy. It took me a while, but I settled on the Valrhona aero, rose marshmallow, strawberry leather, pomegranate and spiced rosé ($16), while the other travel bunnie ordered the Smoked chocolate, strawberry, cherry and rose ($15). Both dishes were beautifully presented. Very arty. I can't say that I really liked the strawberry leather, but the rest tasted divine, especially the aero.

The food at Gerard's Bistro is reasonably priced, which makes it a great place for a relaxed bite on a Friday night with numerous shared plates on the menu to choose from.

Mecca Bah, 1000 Ann Street, FORTITUDE VALLEY QLD 4006

When the other travel bunnie and I just started seeing each other, he took me to Mecca Bah one night for a date. That was however back at a time when this bunnie was still a little scared to experiment with various gastronomic options.

Last night, the other travel bunnie and I went there again for dinner, while reminiscing the early stages of our relationship.

Mecca Bah is the sort of place that you would go to for a fun, relaxed yet exotic night. If you are up for a romantic night, opt for a table inside along the wall, with the silky fabric padded seats.

I wanted a table outside so that we could get some crisp air. There was a hen's party on a few tables away from us but I love seeing people enjoying their lives; it puts a smile on my face.

I initially wanted the Spicy Turkish kofte, yoghurt sauce, but there was a twenty-minute wait on the dish and we were both in a hungry state, so Kataifi pastry filled with Middle Eastern cheeses ($14.50) was ordered instead. I'd glad that I tried it, it turned out to be exceptionally delicious.

For mains, we had Spit roasted lamb, rocket, yoghurt & sumac ($24) and Chargrilled swordfish with couscous ($25). The lamb pizza was tasty, I know it sounds like “duh” but the pizza had a very intense lamb flavour and the yoghurt provided a good balance to it. Both of the dishes are great value.

Although there was room for improvement in the service department, Mecca Bah is still a great place to go to for a midweek dinner.
