Música Palazzo at Palazzo Versace Gold Coast
It’s Friday evening, you slip into your favourite dress and pull up the zippers on your Gucci Kelis sandals. You are ready for a date. Your car stops on a cobblestoned driveway, in front of you stands an elegant, opulent structure that resembles something you’ve seen in one of Assouline’s books. Your dangling earrings sparkle with every step you take in the marbled lobby, just as dazzling as the antique chandelier above your head that was once admired by many in the State Library of Milan. Here, you’ll enjoy a night of a spectacular live operatic performance. You know what the best part of this experience is? No flights to Italy are required.
Following on from the success of season one in 2016, iconic hotel Palazzo Versace Gold Coast launched the highly-anticipated second season of “Música Palazzo” this March, and I was extremely lucky to be invited to get a taste of it.
The experience started with us enjoying some chilled drinks at Le Jardin, while our room was getting made up. Situated on the second level of the hotel, there was nothing not to love about our room; the beautiful Parquet flooring, the spacious marble bathroom, the signature Greek key pattern along the sides of the high ceiling, the freshness of white colour on the bed combined with vibrant tones on the silk Versace cushions, everything was classic yet distinctively Versace. Behind the gold, Medusa head drapes hid a Juliette balcony that provided a gorgeous view of the luminous blue lagoon, a view that I wouldn’t mind waking up to every morning.
We chilled by the lagoon pool in the afternoon and watched Minibun George splash water by the man-made beach until sunset. Afterwards, we headed to Il Barocco, a buffet restaurant located on the ground level of the hotel, where we enjoyed a feast of Mediterranean fare - everything from fresh seafood, to tantalising hot dishes and antipasti, and last but not least, an array of wonderfully created desserts, oh and of course, Mediterranean wines. Dinner was absolutely delicious. We’d been to plenty of buffets in our lives and I can honestly say that the quality and taste at Il Barocco without a doubt trumped a lot of the places that we had been too, not to mention that the food was paired with impeccable service and Versace crockery.
When the clock struck 7, we proceeded to the lobby where the lights had changed to a seductive shade of purple and enjoyed what turned out to be such an amazing performance by Opera Queensland baritone Jason Barry-Smith while Head of Music, Narelle French worked her magic on Palazzo Versace’s baby grand piano.
I slept like a baby that night. I’m not sure if it was the food, my time spent at the pool, the enchanting operatic performance, or a combination of all of the aforementioned, but I slept like a princess and I woke up feeling so refreshed and so grateful for everything that life has to offer. I guess a good getaway always does that to me.
“Música Palazzo” features a series of spectacular live operatic performances featuring Opera Queensland’s most talented artists, and will take centre stage at the hotel’s grand lobby on the first Friday of the month until December 1st, 2017. For all the food lovers out there, the expert culinary team have designed menus inspired by the Mediterranean in celebration of Opera’s Italian heritage. Whether you want to be enthralled in the performance whilst enjoying Chef’s selection of Mediterranean tapas and signature cocktails at Le Jardin, or eat to your heart’s content at Il Barocco with their “Flavours of the Mediterranean” seafood buffet. If it’s a fine dining experience that you desire, then Vanitas is a superb choice, otherwise, you can enjoy a delicious dinner in a relaxing seaside setting at the alfresco outlet Vie Bar + Restaurant.
Let Palazzo Versace put sparkles on your night.
