Admiring Ovation of the Seas with Royal Caribbean
It was just before noon last Wednesday and I was trying my best to multitask - following the instructions of my GPS and concentrating on the road while suppressing my overexcitement. I was on my way to the Port of Brisbane to meet Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas which was making her Queensland debut as she arrived in Brisbane for the first time.
Standing in front of Ovation of the Seas, which spans 18 decks and is longer than three football fields, it was hard not to be in awe of the magnitude of this majestic ship. Being the biggest, newest and most technologically advanced to ever sail in Australia, Ovation of the Seas cost US$1 billion to build, and I was sooooo ready to take a tour of the ship.
A number of I.D. and security checks later, I found myself standing in the middle of the Royal Esplanade, like a kid in a candy store, not sure where to look and it was clear to see that passengers onboard this ship are spoilt for choice. Numerous and varied dining options, entertainment venues and shop till you drop outlets including Omega, Michael Kors, and if they get lucky at Casino Royale, even a Cartier boutique to get some sparkling arm candy. That’s right, there’s a Cartier boutique on the ship people! How insane is that?!
As a self-proclaimed food lover, one of the main deciding factors for me on choosing a cruise ship is dining options, and Ovation of the Seas has plenty. To be exact, this superliner has 18 exciting restaurants and dining experiences ranging from fine dining to casual eateries, including one of the world’s favourite celebrity chef outlets, Jamie Oliver’s Jamie’s Italian. I have to admit though, the restaurant that grabbed my attention the most was Wonderland. Here, the chefs let their imaginations run wild and dish up incredibly fun and imaginative cuisines, taking guests on a culinary journey that is sure to impress.
I saw so many things while onboard this superliner - several indoor, outdoor pools, a rock climbing wall, the FlowRider surf simulator, a transformative activity venue that allows guests to play basketball, roller skate aaaaaaand play bumper cars. These are just a few things that are offered on the ship and as much as I wanted to see it all, I simply couldn’t get around to everything due to the enormity of it all.
Ovation of the Seas is a destination in itself and is clearly supercruising at its finest. I’m planning my next cruise, and you can be sure that it will be on Ovation of the Seas.
Disclaimer: with thanks to Royal Caribbean for welcoming DolceBunnie onboard Ovation of the Seas as an invited guest, please note that my opinion is as always, my own.
