Petrichor & Co. | Shop 1, 33 Racecourse Road, HAMILTON QLD 4007

I don’t know how many times I told my friends that I didn’t want to move out of the city and into the “burbs”. I loved living in the city because every possible dining option was right downstairs, but sixteen months later, I must say that I have developed a fondness for my suburb, in fact when the other travel bunnie asked where I would like to move to in the future, I said to him that I would like to stay in our area. So when a new commercial building was developed on Racecourse Road, I rushed to check out the newly opened businesses, and that’s when I discovered Petrichor & Co.

Petrichor, as Wikipedia explains it, is the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. The word is constructed from Greek petra, meaning "stone", and ichor, the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology. I love that fresh, earthy smell. It’s like it cleanses my soul with a deep breath. Just like its name, Petrichor & Co.’s decor is clean and fresh. The menu has a touch of Colombian influence which is like a breath of fresh air in Brisbane’s cafe scene. They recently launched their spring menu which includes delicious options like the traditional Colombian breakfast, Calentado - Colombian bubble and squeak with beans, rice, corn salsa, fried egg and sweet fried plantains with chorizo ($18) and Arepa con Carne Desmechada - organic pulled beef, beans, guacamole, poached egg, pickled cabbage ($19.50) or if you are ofter something light and refreshing then the coconut chia seed pudding with fruits, maple syrup, nuts, sesame seed praline and fruit jelly ($14.50) is pretty good. I visited this cafe twice last week because I’m honestly obsessed with their food, especially the Calentado, because it’s utterly flavoursome and satisfying.

Located within walking distance from home, Petrichor & Co. has no doubt become one of my favourite breakfast/lunch spots.

PS. Check out their special board as they often have well-priced and delicious choices such as the Toasted Homemade Strawberry Loaf with ginger and orange ice cream, maple syrup, and  macadamia crumb ($12.50).

  1. Looks really yum, I don't mind living in the suburb if I have this kind of café within reach. Thanks for the new word I learn, I also love that fresh earthy scent when it rains. Nice blog!
