If you’re on Instagram, I’m pretty sure that at some stage in recent months, you’ve seen at least one photo of a delicious looking lemon thyme, blueberry and ricotta hotcake painted with vibrant colours, with the location being marked as Seven-VII-South. Well, I have, a number of times, actually, it kept on popping up in my feed over and over again, and I drooled on my phone over and over again.

So finally on a recent Sunday morning, we drove to Seven VII South in Yeronga to find out what it has to offer. Sunday brunch is probably one of the busiest times for a cafe, which is why it would be wise to make a reservation, and thank god Seven-VII-South takes reservations, which we found out after our arrival, without one… but luckily for us the wait wasn’t that long and there’s a park nearby where you can take your little ones to play while waiting for a table.

The breakfast menu is available all day on the weekends and I must admit that I struggled a bit to decide on what to have, the confit duck leg, warm radicchio and pumpkin salad, walnuts and vincotto ($23.50) sounded nice and hearty on a cold day and the bacon creamed sweetcorn ($17) sounded appealing, I mean who doesn't love bacon?! But in the end, I decided to go for the lemon thyme, blueberry and ricotta hotcake with crème fraiche and pistachio praline ($17.50).  The lunch special of the day was pappardelle with lamb ragu, goats curd ($24) which is what the other travel bunnie had, and we also ordered battered whiting and chips ($10) for Minibun George.

We had a freshly squeezed juice of orange, pineapple, mint and ginger ($7), and a mocha ($3.50) to start our meal. Let me tell you what, they are not stingy with the portions here. My hotcake was massive. It had a fluffy texture and tasted as delicious as it looked. The parpadelle, as expected, was a great choice as the other travel bunnie wiped his plate clean. I found the service very prompt and friendly so it’s no wonder Seven South is a local favourite.

Total Bunnie Dollars Spent: $62
