Legendale Hotel (勵駿酒店) | Beijing, CHINA
The
other travel bunnie and I started our 4 night stay in the Capital
with a stay at the old world classic Legendale Hotel and we were
slightly unsure of what to expect given that all of the other hotels
that we were staying at in China were all mainstream hotel brands.
The
Legendale Hotel is as visually striking from the outside as it is
inside. Everything about the décor and structure of this place
screams opulence. More importantly, the hotel is located just
next to a major subway and is only a short walk away from Wangfujing
which is critical when you consider travel times in this mammoth
city.
Check
in was not the start we wanted at the Legendale with 3 different
staff being required to clarify what was included in our package
(which stated that we had booked Noble club level access).
After some 30 mins ‘discussing’ what was in fact included we
finally ended up with the room category that we had booked and usage
of the club lounge for breakfast only. The room itself was
stunning, with all the dark furniture, gold fittings and ceiling
decorations really transporting you to another time (and another
place given the outside conditions of Beijing). I loved the
deep soaking bathtub that had a glass petition that let me look into
the room while I unwound after a long days walking. Breakfast in the
Noble club (which we fought so hard to ensure was included as stated
in our package) was underwhelming and the relative quite that can be
found in the top floor dining area was trumped by the superior
selection of food available at the hotel's main breakfast dining area
which we also used. The door staff were particularly nice
offering information about distances, hailing taxis and generally
greeting us with a smile as the opened the lobby doors each time we
arrived.
The
Hotel’s indoor pool was also nice for a quick dip on one hot day
but again remember that without a swimming cap, guests will not be
allowed in!
All
in all, the poor check-in experience was not enough to take the shine
off this unique hotel experience.
