The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai Pudong (上海浦东丽思卡尔顿) | Shanghai, CHINA
We
flew First Class with China Eastern Airlines from Shenzhen to
Shanghai and that was my only contribution to the trip, I mean, in
addition to my great companionship of course (*giggles*). The other
travel bunnie had booked a room at The Ritz-Carlton in Pudong,
Shanghai for us. It was my first Ritz-Carlton experience and I
thought it was appropriate to arrive in style, starting with the
transportation.
Having
been continuously listed as amongst the world's best hotels for many
years by the Condé
Nast Traveler, this Ritz-Carlton hotel is absolutely beautiful and so
elegantly understated, yet it holds an unmistakeably luxurious
presence. Upon our arrival, we were told by the apologetic
receptionist that our room was unfortunately not yet ready. Slightly
disappointing, yes, but we were offered complementary drinks at the
Aura lounge while we waited, which I thought was a nice gesture on
behalf of the hotel.
Once
the room was ready, we were led to our room by one of the staff who
spoke fluent English and she took the time to show us around and
explained where everything was.
The
room itself was everything I had hoped for and beyond. The moment
when I stepped into the room, I gasped at what was in front of my
eyes, the Oriental Pearl Tower. It was literally right before my
eyes. Along with it, were the sweeping views of the Shanghai Bund.
Traces
of Shanghai's 1930s Art Deco era can be seen throughout the room,
which includes a beautiful marble bathroom with an oversized vintage
clawfoot bathtub as well as a separate rainforest shower.
That
night we came back from dinner and a few drinks upstairs at Flair,
the room had already been turned down with some delicious chocolates
placed by our bedside tables as well as the next day's weather
forecast.
The
next morning after a scrumptious buffet breakfast at Scena, we took a
nice dip in the stunning pool to take in the stunning views the city
of Shanghai had to offer. It was a memorable stay at The Ritz-Carlton
completed with prompt and thoughtful service throughout.
