Public, Level 1, 400 George Street, BRISBANE QLD 4000
Public, the recently crowned one chef hat restaurant located inside the CBD's Santos building has been on our list for a while and was visited on Thursday night before we headed across the river to see the mummy exhibition that's currently on display at the Queensland Museum.
The restaurant is spacious with high ceilings and also provides a second level but somehow still retains a slight feeling of intimacy with its wooden décor and candle lit tables.
Its concept is built on sharing, offering the opportunity for its customers to sample many different tastes. It's recommended that two or three plates are ordered per person. The plates range from $12 to $26 each, or alternatively 'big plates' are available to be shared by two people.
We ordered Truffle, mac n cheese ($12), Saltbush lamb, sheeps milk, caramelised onion ($26), Quail, sesame, coconut ($18), Duck, lime leaf, coconut rice ($22), Asian slaw ($7.50) and the KFD – Kentucky Fried Duck ($26).
The dishes were tasty but nothing mind blowing. The only dish that I would recommend as a must to try is the KFD. I loved the packaging and the size is generous when compared to the other plates. Most importantly, the duck legs were so flavoursome and tender, the spices that were dusted onto the duck created an awesomeness that lingered in my mouth and mind for the rest of the night.
Total Bunnie Dollars Spent: $97.50
