German Sausage Hut, Burnett Lane, BRISBANE CBD QLD 4000
I discovered this place when I was wandering around in the city one day and I was immediately attracted by this cute corner shop. Later on that day, I found out that they do 1kg pork hock every friday night and dinner was booked then and there.
The other travel bunny and I were excited all day despite the fact that we had hectic day at work.
Hidden discretely in the Burnett Lane, this place reminded me so much of Sankt Goar, a little town on the left bank of the Middle Rhine, Germany where I once visited. Think cuckoo clocks, German beer steins and cute girls in dirndls...
We had one pork hock ($29.95) each and god, that was good. The pork crackling was crispy and tasty with just the right amount of salt, the meat inside was soft and juicy. Mine was served with creamy, fluffy mashed potato and sauerkraut, too bad that I had my full attention on the pork hock and my stomach wasn't big enough to finish the whole plate of food. The service was attentive the whole time, they were warm but not in your face. Oh, we also started our meal with bread and their home-made secret garlic mayo, the mayo is a must!! I don't know how they made it, but I think it's addictive!! After a few sips of their schnapps, I wanted to cover my whole face in the mayo... thank god the other bunny was being sensible.
Don't judge a book by its cover, this place will not disappoint you.
This looks amazing - just what you need when the winter weather arrives!
