King Arthur Cafe | 164C Arthur Street, FORTITUDE VALLEY QLD 4006

Our first visit to King Arthur Cafe in 2015 was one of those wonderful accidental discoveries. Since then, King Arthur Cafe has concreted itself as one of the local staples for fantastic cafe meals and solid coffee. Last Friday we found ourselves sitting upstairs at King Arthur Cafe waiting for dinner to be served. That’s right, King Arthur Cafe now serves dinner every Friday night! Since its opening, King Arthur has been leading the charge among the conscious food movement in Brisbane and it’s not surprising that the dinner menu places a heavy emphasis on locally sourced ingredients, in order to provide a genuine farm-to-table experience for guests.

Open from 7 am on Friday, you can now have drinks and snacks from 2:30 pm after the cafe’s breakfast service, before enjoying a nice dinner from 5 pm onwards. The dinner menu includes both meat and veggie dishes, as well as larger share plates. I already had an idea about what to order before I arrived, but after finding out that the meat of the day for the larger share plate was beef cheeks, I caved in and completely changed my mind. So we ordered their carne roja (being beef cheeks on the daywe dined) served with lemon, pickled jalapeños and house mustard ($36) as well as two side dishes - loop carrots roasted & smoked, cavalo nero, house curd, seeds ($20) and cauliflower, macadamia cream, beetroot, shaved pecorino ($18). The red meat was absolutely delicious. Contrary to what I thought, the beef cheeks were not drenched in sauce, yet were incredibly tender and flavoursome, while the jalapeños really added some heat to each mouthful. You know what I loved about the whole experience? The fact that everyone at King Arthur can easily point to where the ingredients were sourced from and talk about the growers as if they were friends from way back.

We shared the table with another family who decided to get a number of smaller dishes to share, and I must admit that I had my eyes on those plates too. The grilled octopus, fermented pineapple, gremolata & kelp salt ($21) and duck tataki, pickled horseradish, leek, sweet potato, black sesame ($28) appeared to be calling my name and chanting “Jennie, come and eat us”… well, I guess I’ll just have to head back for more.

Disclaimer: with thanks to King Arthur Cafe for welcoming DolceBunnie & family to the property as invited guests, please note that my opinion is as always, my own.
