Sushi & Champagne Social with Sono Japanese Restaurant | Hamilton QLD 4007
An invitation popped up in my inbox recently and my eyes lit up when I read that it was an invitation to attend a sushi masterclass at Sono Japanese Restaurant, Portside Wharf. The restaurant is less than five minutes drive for me and Minibun George happened to be at kindy on the day, so I delightedly accepted the invitation.
The masterclass was an intimate event. The six of us were seated in front of the teppanyaki station with a glass of Louis Roederer each before being introduced to Chef Jin, our sensei for the day, who has over 13 years of experience under his belt. During the two hour session, we learned how to make three different kinds of sushi, including the extremely popular Sono California roll made with blue swimmer crab, prawn, egg omelette, cucumber, avocado, Japanese mayonnaise, flying fish roe and sesame seed.
The masterclass was very hands-on, easy to follow and super fun. But you know what the best part was? Eating our own creation! At the end of the class, Chef Jin sliced up everyone’s sushi creations with precision for us to enjoy together with a delicious Makunouchi bento box, which was presented beautifully as each dish looked like a decadent work of art.
At $125 per person, the masterclass includes two glasses of Louis Roederer, a Makunouchi bento box and two hours of fun! I took the rest of my sushi creation home and needless to say, the other travel bunnie was very impressed!
Disclaimer: with thanks to Sono Japanese Restaurant for welcoming DolceBunnie to the property as an invited guest, please note that my opinion is as always, my own.
