Jak+Hill | 40 Astor Terrace, SPRING HILL QLD 4000

Going out for a scrumptious breakfast every weekend is a must for the other travel bunnie and I. I'd like to think of it as perhaps the most leisurely and relaxing time of the week, and a delicious breakfast on a Saturday morning always makes for a joyful start to the weekend.

Given the fact that we almost always eat out for breakfast, our weekend lunches tend to be less exciting. It is usually a light and causal affair somewhere in the city. So this past weekend, we decided to have a decent Saturday lunch instead.

Feeling rather adventurous, we opted for somewhere that we had never been before, Jak+Hill in Spring Hill.

The funky cafe was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday with only three open tables. We had a quick look at the menu and decided to have twice cooked lamb w' cous cous, roasted vegetable salad and yoghurt ($26) and Atlantic salmon fillet w' charred corn salsa, lime mayo and rocket salad ($27). The food didn't take long to come out at all. The twice cooked lamb was slightly disappointing. I expected tender, juicy and flavoursome lamb but instead it was quite chewy and rather bland. Having said that, the cous cous was cooked with a mixture of pistachio and almond flakes, and I really liked the texture. The salmon, my favourite fish, was undercooked in the middle so I had to switch the plate with the other travel bunnie halfway through the meal. On a positive, the charred corn salsa was really tasty and complimented the flavour of the fish well.

Although it wasn't exactly what I would call a fantastic lunch, it was something different and not to mention that the strawberry milkshake ($6) was perfectly frothy and yummy.

Total Bunnie Dollars Spent: $63
