Alchemy Restaurant and Bar, 175 Eagle Street, BRISBANE CBD 4000
Alchemy wasn't part of our dinner plan for that Monday night. But having learnt that Montrachet was fully booked and there was no way for them to make room for a table of two somewhere even in a little dark corner. I presume that the other travel bunny could not bare to see the devastation written all over my face, he booked Alchemy.
And it was goooooood.
Dazzling view of the BNE river and the Story Bridge while you wine and dine at this well situated restaurant created by owners Brad and Angelica Jolly. We ordered seared scallops with vine ripened tomato dressing, toasted brioche and basil jelly ($27) for entree, Duck Breast with Spiced Bok Choy, Pears, Sautéed Potatoes, Confit Garlic and Red Wine Sauce ($42) and their special of the night, slow cooked beef cheeks with creamed potato for mains. Mmmm, the scallops were so delicately cooked and the beef cheeks were juicy and soft, it felt like they were literally melting in your mouth. Dessert selection is always hard for me, but we had Lemon Soufflé with White Chocolate Sabayon and Raspberry Sorbet ($17) and Chocolate and Vanilla Parfait with Salted Chocolate Caramel and Peanut Brittle Ice Cream ($17). The soufflé, risen and golden on the outside, but still soft and creamy inside.
We had a great time at Alchemy. Although I wouldn't say that it's my new favourite place in town, but it's definitely worth a try, especially their beef cheeks! Yummmm…
